We started off back at the Southern Baptist Conference volunteer kitchen, putting beef stew into containers. When the lunch menu was complete, we went out to help at homes of other co-workers in the more damaged areas. Both houses we went to had major flood damage, and all carpets and drywall had to be removed... in one of the houses a layer of mud and slush covered everything. In the other house the mold was already starting to take over - you could smell it. There are many people who are very devastated - and need help.
After the houses we went back to the kitchen for another round, cooking sweet potatos and washing dishes. The people we worked with are mostly from West Texas and very sweet. It was a lot of fun! Here are some pictures from volunteering and interesting damage we saw... I was taking the photos - but don't worry I was working too :)
When we got home our contractor was on our roof doing measurements - which was fantastic! He had seen our roof when he did our siding this spring and couldn't believe we didn't lose it:) There is a small section he recommended putting some plastic over since you can see some plywood. The whole installation will be about $8K with of course options to spend more (ridge vents, better warranty etc.) Now we just need our windstorm insurance adjuster to agree with him!
