The Great Atlantic Provinces

We had an incredible trip to the Great Atlantic Provinces of Canada... our friend's Rachel and Matt had invited us up for their wedding in Prince Edwards Island, so we took the opportunity to explore Nova Scotia and Fundy Bay as well! Over all, the wedding was so beautiful and we felt honored to take part in their special day... and then we went on to have several adventures exploring the Atlantic Coast Provinces!

In total we had 4 days, went to 3 Provinces and 3 National Parks, Paul ate 4 fish and chip plates and I had 2 Lobstors and 2 Mussel plates, we went on 2 incredible hikes, and saw the Fundy tides from 4 different beaches!

In this blog are the pictures from Prince Edward's Island and Rachel's Wedding... below are the stories from Nova Scotia and Fundy Bay!

Nova Scotia

After the wedding, we somehow managed to scrape ourselves out of bed and hop on the ferry to Nova Scotia. We then hightailed it to the northern section of the province - Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. It was just an incridible drive, and given that we were recovering from the night before, we were happy it was cool and cloudy out.

When exploring the Cabot trail we decided to go on our first trail run! There was a 5.7 mile trail that we weren't sure if we could fit in the 1.5 hours we had left of the day - so we decided to run it! It was our first real attempt to run on both hills and for a 2.5 mile stretch some complicated trail... and it was a real success! Both of us ran really well, and the view was incredible. It was the highlight of our trip!

We still ended up pulling into our Bed & Breakfast in the dark, but woke up to an incredible veiw or Ingonish Bay. We then did another quick hike before heading out to see the Alexander Grahm Bell Museum. After that, we had our first taste of Nova Scotia Lobster - which was incredibly good and fun to try to dismantle :).

The next leg of our trip was to drive along the South Shore of the mainland of Nova Scotia, past Halifax to a little area called Peggy's Cove. Peggy's Cove is just a small town with 30 buildings, most of them houses, with a small cove for fish boats, and a very pretty lighthouse. We got there in time for a beautiful sunset and wonderful dinner of fresh seafood and a bottle of Nova Scotian wine. Then we discovered our Bed and Breakfast for the night was just on the cove with a view of the lighthouse. It was a unique place, and seemed as though it hadn't changed in 100 years!

Nova Scotia was incredible! We will definitly be back!

Fundy Bay

The last stop on our trip was Fundy Bay in New Brunswick. This bay has the largest tidal changes in the world - up to 44 feet tall! It really is an incredible sight to see... we started out at the Hopewell rocks which are formed from the coastal bluffs eroding from the fast tidal changes. Then we headed into the National Park to explore the tidal pools, where we saw star fish and crabs and some dolphins were playing just off shore! Then we watched the tide come into an estuary. It was incredible to see just how fast the water came in... we kept having to get up and pick a new rock to sit on!

Overall, it was a great ending to our incredible trip!

Fredericksburg Cabin

For the weekend of July 4th we stayed in a cabin just outside of Fredericksburg - it was definitly awesome. The cabin was made for either hunters or John and Kate plus 8 though, because it had one bedroom with a double and the other bedroom with 8 singles :) Pretty funny! But otherwise it was spacious and relaxing - and from the front porch we could watch humming birds, deer, and cattle go by!

Fishing Trip 2009

Dad and Diana were in town last week and we went on another great fishing adventure! It was pretty typical... the girls caught the most fish and the boys let the biggest ones get away :)

We always go with Capt. Kurt - because as you can see he knows where to catch them and does a great job of taking care of us! His info is here: http://saltwateranglerfishingcharters.com/index.html

Canoe Camping Trip

It's been awhile... but last month we went on a canoe camping trip! I really love these trips - because on the river you never get too hot. And if you do, you can always jump in the water or have a beer!
